Colorado. <br />Sponsor: <br />City of Thornton. <br />Prinary Purpose of the Project <br />Municipal water supply. <br />Secondary Benefits: <br />Recreation and possible hydro-electrlc generation. <br />History and Background: <br />The City of Thornton has been active in acquisition of <br />water rights In South Park since late 1977, This Involve- <br />ment and commitment to develop additional firm yield of <br />these water rights led to the initiation of a reconnaissance <br />level investigation of a reservoir site in South Park early in <br />1978. In August 1979, an agreement was entered into with <br />the City of Aurora to cooperate on construction of water <br />storage facilities in Park County, To this end, Aurora has <br />commenced construction of Spinney Mountain Reservoir <br />on the Middle Fork of the South Platte River and Thornton <br />is complating the site selactlon process of an additional <br />reservoir moat likely to be located on Tarryall Creek, To <br />date, Thornton has Informed Park Gounly Planning <br />Officials and met with the Colorado Department of Natural <br />Resources to describe the progress on this project, <br />The Thornton reservoir is preliminarily sized for ap- <br />proximately 20,000 acre-feet capacity and will be used <br />primarily for municipal waterslorege, Secondary benefits <br />will include recreation and possible hydro-electrlc power <br />generation.
