.

.

There is an emergency spillway which is 200 feet wide in the

left abutment. The outlet works consist of a corrugated metal

outlet conduit three feet (3') in diameter with a concrete wet

well and control gates located upstream of the dam crest. The

outlet conduit was replaced in 1958 at which time the original

outlet conduit was not removed or properly abandoned, but left

as existed in the dam foundation.

The upstream face of the dam was originally con-

structed to a 3: 1 slope with a concrete facing and concrete

apronwall. However, cracking of the concrete facing occurred

with subsequent erosion under the facing resulting in over

steeping of the face to nearly 1:1 slope in some areas. A sand

layer exists in the dam foundation which is causing excessive

seepage in the area of the outlet conduit and is promoting ero-

sion around the outlet at the toe of the embankment. The out-

let conduit has been inspected and is in a deteriorated state

with leakage occurring at several of the pipe joints.

For the past few years, the deterioration of these

structures has been of concern to both the owner and the State

Engineer. The State Engineer's Office has issued a restriction

upon this reservoir limiting storage to gage height of five

feet (5') which is two feet (2') below maximum storage capaci-

ty. If not repaired, increased restrictions may be placed on

the reservoir resulting in additional loss of stored water to

the irrigators. This reservoir had an initial capacity of

4,000 acre feet and at the present restriction is storing only

.

- 2 -
