IISodarll

Streambank wheatgrass

4.0

I would suggest that this 9 Ib./acre rate be increased. It
would not hurt to use 10 Ibs. of this mix per 10,000 square feet
if a broadcast lawn dri II is used.

5. Plant a Dry Grass Mixture to areas that are adjacent to bal I
fields. Prepare a simi lar seedbed, but ferti I izing wi II not be
necessary. The Dry Grass Mixture should also be planted over the
enti re area, especially where trees or shrubs wi II be planted in
the future. Once trees are establ ished into this grass, the
grass wi I I minimize the amount of broad leaf and aggressive weeds
that wi II need to be pulled or mowed.

Dry Grass Mixture:

Variety
<Ori II ed)

Species Critical Area Rate

"Ephraim"

Fairway wheatgrass 2.0 Ibs./acre

"Sodar"

Streambank wheatgrass

4.0 Ibs./acre

IIAlmall or

Blue grama

1.0 Ibs. acre

"Hachitall

TOTAL

7.0 Ibs.acre

This dry grass mixture should be dri lied between June 15 and
July 15 and irrigated. Plant smal I enough areas that can be
irrigated at least twice weekly with one inch appl ications of
water. Once the grasses have germinated and emerged, the next
area could be planted. Delay any herbicide application until
grasses have at least three leaves.

Warm Season Grass Mixture

A warm season grass mixture could be seeded in the lawn area
south of the school bui Iding. This mix is recommended to
minimize mowing and to create a "novelty" plant community. It
could be mowed if desired. Deciduous trees or shrubs could be
planted into this area in the future. This mix could be
ferti I ized , irrigated and mowed a I ittle to appear more I ike a
lawn. This might, however, promote the increase of more
competitive spring grasses and broadleaf weeds.

3
