<br />Denver to develop a more positive Image In this <br />major transportation corridor, <br /> <br />this document will provide a Master Plan lor land- <br />scaping '-25 within Denver, As with any Master <br />Plan, there is some flexibility to allow response to <br />creative opportunhies and lor special treatments <br />lor individual projects. However, linal approval 01 all <br />landscape design rests with the Colorado Depart- <br />ment 01 Highways, It is also hoped that these <br />guidelines will provide a good example to aid other <br />communhies to develop their own Master Plans lor <br />major transportation corridors. Also identified are <br />possible alternate Institutional arrangements to In- <br />stall and provide long term landscape maintenance <br />on highway right 01 way. <br /> <br />PROJECT LOCATION <br /> <br />The seven mile long project is located in the City <br />and County 01 Denver, Colorado. 1-25 parallels the <br />South Plane River Valley and in many areas lorms <br />one of the sides of the Plalte Valley Greenway, <br />'-25 provides one of the primary access routes Into <br />Downtown Denver and is a primary link in the north- <br />south transportation corridor along the Front <br />Range, The project begins at the Broadway - lin- <br />coln Interchange and continues to the I - 70 Inter- <br />change. The southern terminus is where there Is a <br />detinUe break between relatively pleasing land- <br />scaped areas and areas dellnately lacking land- <br />scaping, The northern terminus is just north of the <br />'-7011-25 Interchange at the Denver Chy Iimhs. <br /> <br />TASK FORCE <br /> <br />The Department of Highways established a Task <br />Force which is composed of representatives Irom <br />the lollowing organizations: <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />. Colorado Department 01 Highways <br />District Maintenance Section <br />District Environmental Unit <br />Stall Landscape Architects <br />. PlaUe River Greenway Foundation <br />. Keesen Irrigation Consultants <br />. Tupa Associates <br /> <br />The Task Force investigated numerous design and <br />maintenance topics. Monthly woll<shops were con- <br />ducted to direct the Department 01 Highways in the <br />development of the Landscape Guidelines and <br />preparation 01 the tinal plans lor the demonstration <br />projects.Prolessionals who made presentations al <br />these meetings include: <br /> <br />Larry Keesen, Keesen Irrigation Consuhants <br /> <br />Dr, James Feucht, Colorado State University <br />Cooperative Extension Specialist, Landscape <br />Plants <br /> <br />Dorothy Borland, The T ur!
