Landscapes viewed only from <br />oil slle can be developed 10 reflect oil-site <br />character. These concepls should be devel- <br />oped whh Ihe adjacenl nelghborhoode or busi- <br />nesses. Roadsides visible from 1-25 should be <br />landscaped following the landscape approach <br />Indlcaled In thIs report. <br />. Graduate heights 01 plant malerlal with distance <br />away from the primary viewer to .open up. the <br />roadway space. <br />. Areas should nol be planted Ihal are obscured <br />from view by walls. slopes or other plants. To <br />Insure landscape treatments are visible, check <br />sight lines 'rom the roadway be'ore design. <br />Again. 'or landscaping out of Ihe 1-25 motorists <br />view, the landscape architect should consider <br />neighbor- hood character and viewa. <br />. In those areas where there Is no guardrail 10 <br />keep traffic off of landscaped areas, creallve <br />design should be used to provide either a v1su <br />a' and/or physical barrIer 10-15 feet from the <br />roadway (allowing an ample clear zone for vehI- <br />cles 10 pull oil) to prevent landscape deslruc- <br />lion. Examples 0' 'barriers' are raised berms <br />covered with plant meterial, hardscape com- <br />bined whh a raised berm, elc. <br />. Along Interstate segmenls use large masses 0' <br />only a ,..w specl..s; res..rv.. small groups and <br />mor.. detailed plantings where ramps join arterl. <br />als and travel speeds are reduced. <br />. Landscape loliage should show contrasting 1Xl1. <br />or and/or textur... <br />.
