I
!
I -
I
,

J ,

!

HOW "WE PLAN TO GET mERE

Many strategies and methods are being implemented to accomplish these goals. The
methods range from being public sector role models to helping customers eliminate waste and
use water wisely. However, this plan will only succeed with the willing participation of all our
customers in reducing water waste and increasing water efficiency. The water conservation
strategies are arranged in the following categories:

. Denver Water facilities
. Government facilities
. Business and Institutions

. Residential: Single-Family
. Residential: Multifamily
. General Applicability

Selection of Strnteeies
Strategies and methods included in this Master Plan have met the following criteria:

" '".,"-'.:' . " .
Criteria:, " , <,"' ,,' , , ',::.' '
L Can the nro~ram be imnlemented? Are the resources needed to implement the program
"available? Are there legal considerations which might affect the program? Does
responsibility for implementing the program fall within Denver Water's jurisdiction?
2. Is the orol'ram cost-effective in the lon~-terrn? Do the projected savings or benefits justify
the resources (money, staff. equipment) required to implement it when compared to other
options? Would another approach cost less or offer greater savings? '
3. Is the success of the orO!<Tam measurable? Does it include some method for determining
"success or failure? If the program will not improve water use efficiency" can indirect
'savings be identified?,' ,,' " ",'
4. Will the oro~rllmreSult in- sustainable water savinl!s? Wm-tlie program encourage long-
term water conservation? How likely is it that initial efficiencies will continue in the
future? , , , ":' ,.,.'. , " ,
5. Does th~ prol!ram consider community water needs? 'Doesitrecogmze the necessary uses
of water? Does it emphasize reducing water waste and improving water use efficiency
, ,rather than dictating community needs and preferences as defined in the most current
''> Denver Comprehensive Plan? ' '

These criteria may be amended or expanded in the future as necessary to make wise
decisions about water use in this community.

- 9 -
