,
I
j
i

WHERE WE WANT TO BE

Denver Water would like to provide all of the water needed for the uses desired by the
community in a manner that is as efficient as current knowledge and technology, tempered by
reasonable cost considerations, will allow.

Based upon current growth projections for the service area, Denver Water, in cooperation
with its customers, will save increasing amounts of water annually through programs such as
those outlined in this plan over the next 43 years. If these plans are implemented successfully,
annual demand will be at least 36,600 acre feet less than it would be without conservation by
2035. The water conserved will decrease pressure on Denver Water's future reserve.

To Denver Water customers, conservation means different things depending on their
respective uses and needs for water. If the above goal is to be achieved, families in detached
housing will need to reduce their water use by an average of about 33 gallons per day, or 7%.
and families in multifamily units by about 21 gallons per day, or 23%. 'These are achievable
goals by 2035 using conservative projections and voluntary compliance by customers. Del. ier
Water is reserving mandatory measures to respond to emergencies.

i
l
I
I

Opportunities and potential for commercial, institutional, industrial and public agency
conservation are too diverse for averages to be meaningful as guides to savings estimates.
However, when considered all together, they are expected ta save at least 13,200 acre feet per
year, or 38% of the goal.

As a future benefit of carrying out this plan, Denver Water will measure and analyze
realistic savings and will be able to make more reliable projections.

- 8 -
