<br />Government {Public Sector> Customers <br /> <br />Public sector customers account for only about 9% of the total water used in our service <br />area. However, since the overwhelming majority of this 9% is used to <br />irrigate parks, parkways, P,b1oS",o,w...,u.. <br />medians and school <br />grounds, public sector <br />water use (and water <br />waste) is very visible. <br />Because of this, and <br />because the remaining <br />public sector water use is <br />primarily domestic (toilets <br />and faucets), we have <br />decided to concentrate on <br />developing outdoor <br />conservation programs for <br />the public sector. <br /> <br /> <br />Mu.."",.,.LI_IU"" <br /> <br />AIIJI'lIl (Slaplo1onl '3'1~ <br /> <br />Research by Denver Water has shown that, like residential and commercial/industrial <br />customers, public sector customers apply more water to the landscape than is <br />necessary. In order to reduce this waste, Denver Water has recently begun an <br />innovative partnership with Denver Parks to update irrigation controls and convert most <br />parks and golf courses to being irrigated with non-potable water. <br /> <br />Denver Water has also committed to converting landscape on its own properties to <br />Xeriscape. Work is substantially completed at both our Administration complex and our <br />Moffat treatment plant. <br /> <br />Goals By 2045: <br />· to reduce irrigation inefficiencies in the public sector, resulting in a savings of 1,252 <br />acre feet annually <br />__u. ~----to-er:lool.ll:age-ir:lstallatioo-Gf-XeFiSGaj3e-i-A-j3aFI(G, purl<wuys, meElians and sehools;-- <br />resulting in a savings of 652 acre feet annually <br />. to convert 50 acres of Denver Water property to Xeriscape, resulting in an annual <br />savings of 50 acre feet <br />· to convert treated water irrigation to non-potable sources whenever practicable. <br /> <br />Strategies: <br />· to offer both technical expertise and financial incentives to encourage more efficient <br />water use and promote Xeriscape within city parks. <br />· to provide leadership by example, by converting our own properties to Xeriscape <br /> <br />8 <br />
