<br />Infrastructure Programs <br /> <br />In addition to programs which will give us measurable water savings, we recognize the <br />need for programs which are essential components of our conservation efforts, but <br />which do not result in direct water savings. Some of these programs include: <br /> <br />. Schools - Denver Water has recently begun work on an innovative school education <br />program which will train volunteer DWD employees to make presentations to school <br />classes on a variety of water-related topics. <br /> <br /> <br />· Community Outreach - We will continue to staff conservation exhibits at public and <br />green industry events such as the Garden & Home Show, the Pro Green Expo, and <br />the Parade of Homes. We will also continue to offer slide shows and lectures on <br />Xeriscape and water conservation to interested groups such as neighborhood <br />______H_ associatio[1&..1:J.[1d garden cl~We plan to work with ho1:h.adults-and stlldE'nts, <br />using community gardens as outdoor classrooms. In addition, Conservation staff <br />members will continue to write articles on various water-related topics for national <br />and local newspapers, magazines and trade journals. <br /> <br />· Advertising - Denver Water first began using mass media advertising to increase <br />public awareness of conservation in 1990. In recent years we have presented a <br />series of instructional water conservation vignettes on Channel 9. We plan to not <br />only continue with these TV vignettes, but to explore other ways to bring the <br />mes.sage of conservation to our customers. <br /> <br />. Leak Detection - Leak detection and repair is an integral part of Denver Water's <br />efforts to save water. Technicians survey every inch of our 2500 miles of pipe every <br />three years, using acoustic instruments to detect leaks before they become too <br /> <br />9 <br />
