FROM TOWN OF CRSTLE ROCK

04.26.1994 11:21

P. 10

.-

The Nettles experienced low waler bills throughout most of the summer because they really had no sod or grass to
speak of. The exterior retrofit covered front and back yards. And depending on when plant material was installed, hand
watering occurred, especially for the Native Wonder planled in the front yard in July. Also, they received new blue grass sod
in the late fall which did initially require Increased watering to aid establishment of a root zone.
These are the types of factors thai we are monitoring to adequately judge consumption data. Homeowners are tracking
water consumption habits on a daily basis, Including number of dishwasher and laundry loads, even the number of toilet
fl ushes.
Another thing to remember Is that meters are read in thousands. So if a meter reads 6,999, billing will recognize 6,000
gallons in consumption for that month. The difference will be picked up the next time the meter Is read. We need to walch
consumption over a longer period to help diminish any skewing of data that may occur due to these type of circumstances.
t994 will give us more definitive data from which we can draw our conclusions on what are the most beneficial water
conservation measures out of the methods we applied.

Our ~AftII.o"..u

Our 'Teach By ElIImple' Program sponsors put their efforts, and dlscounls where their mouths were through the Interior
and exterior retrofit proce.sesl Thanks to one and alii

""'".. tMdrapl", . The Water department operates and maintains
up to 10 entry points or water treatment plants, providing potable treated water Into the distribution system with an available
capacity of 7.4 million gallons per day (MGD) and, a design capacity of 9.3 MGD. These plants are fed by various numbers
of shallow and deep wells. There are 7 shallow wells producing a combined total of 421 gallons per minute IGPMl, 22 deep
wells capable of a combined total 3,788 gpril. Additionally we operate nine reservoirs totaling 11.6 million gallons of potable
storage, and 6 pump stations capable of moving 16.6 MGD between seven distinct pressure zones. These zones are also
connected to down feed water through 21 pressure reducing stalions at a controlled rate as needed. This information Includes
Dawson Ridge which Is not on line.
We as operators of the system ask that you gel involved with your system. We would be happy and very pleased to
show you around, including providing water facility tours.
