FROM TOWN OF CRSTLE ROCK

More Conservation Notes...

04.26.1994 11'22

P.l1

(9

Unrepaired leaks Can Be Costly

Size of leak Gallons/Hour Gallons/Day Gallons/Month GallonsNear
Oneltwo drops per second 0.05 1.2 36 438
Intermittent stream 0.9 21.6 64.8 7776
1/16 Inch stream 3 72 2160 25920
1/8 inch stream 10.2 244.8 7344 88128
3/16 inch stream 14 336.9 10107 121284
1/4 Inch stream 38.8 931.2 27936 335232

As this table Indicates, there Is no such thing as a small leak. Over a period of months or years, the cost of even the smallest
leak can be very expensive, both In consumer costs, and production expenses.

This newsletter is paid for in part by the water conservation grant from
the State of Colorado OHice of Water Conservation/

Wafer Savin. Plant 01 the Month!

THORNLESS HONEYlOCUST
(C/editsia triacanthos inermis) The remarkably tough
thornless honeylocust has a delicate and lacy appearance
wilh tiny compound leaflels and a light branching structure.
The winter silhouette is striking. The tiny leaflets require a
minimum of fall raking and allow more light to filter
through to turf grasses below.
The honeylocust Is tolerant of various
environmental stresses, including wind damage, air.
pollution, and Is an excellent choice for the Xeriscape
landscape. Once established in the landscape, the water
requirements are very low, 3 to 4 deep root soakings per
season. The tiny upright branches also help the
honeylocust survive Ice storm damage from ice build-up.
Insect and disease problems are minimal, as are pruning
needs.
There are several varieties of honeylocustthat have
excellent performance records in the front range area:
"Imperial". moderate growth rate to 35 feet. It has
a bright green foliage on dense bran.ching and a round
crown.
"Shademaster" . fast grower to 40-50 feet. This
variety has spreading habit with a wine glass shape.
"SunburSI". another fast grower to 30-35 feet, with
an upright and spreading habit. The new growth is yellow,
turning green through the season.

We are still looking for Water Saving Heros, so If you have any water conservation lips, give us a call.
Are you our next Water Conservation Hero of the Monthlll
