This Is partially due to the water conserving plant material and fixtures, but mostly due to the fact that homeowners spent part to. all of their summers without plant material at alii A few Items to note however: The Hargraves have two meters, one for irrigation and one for the home. At first It looks like Ihe home meter reflects increased interior usage during the summer of 1993. This however Is not entirely accurate, because any plant materiallhat was installed was being irrigated by hose from the house. The new irrigation system was connected to the irrigation meter. The Hargroves also had a new family member in November of 1991. Susan started doing day care oul of the home in April of '992. The Hopkins had to hand waler newly Installed plant material through most of this lasl summer as well. Donna also recently started a home day care business. They also have a large back yard that required watering. But still, an approximate 25% savings was realized in 1993 over 1992 consumption figures.
