.

Analyze periodically the success, cost, and other relevant characteristics of each
conservation program.
Present annual reports of progress made, costs incurred, customer participation
and response, and other effects both expected and unforeseen.

.

SUM\/IARY

Efficient use of water supplIes \Mil play an increasingly irJ'llOrtant role in long range
water use planning. Through wi~ water use, supplies can be extended, the need for
costly facilities delayed, and wat~r resources protected for other uses.

To achieve these goals, It is necessary to obtain broad-based support for all
conservation programs. It is also necessary for efficient water use to become "second
nature" for homeowners, businesp managers, government officials and park custodians.
Clearly, no one person or agency can implement such changes in water use behavior.
Only systematic, gradual chaJt}es, intel'M)ven with advances in technology \Mil
permanently reduce water use.

Many different strategies \Mil be used to reach these water conservation goals.
Present programs target indoor and outdoor water use in both the public and private
sectors. It is the intent of this Water Use Efficiency Plan to provide a framevvork for
_ evaluating and monitoring the various programs while remaining flexible enough to adapt
~- ~--------------~----- '
--- --- - - ---r--- - ---- --- -__ ______
--- --------
to changing conditions and to COIflTTlUnity needs. Sustainability in water savings and-tne- .
cost-effectiveness of the program \Mil be key considerations in assessing various
programs. Specific programs will be selected and funded during the annual planning and
budgeting process.

Achieving water conservation goals \Mil require the effort and corrmitment of
everyone. The intent is to ensure that future generations enjoy high quality water in
sufficient quantities to meet the1ir needs, and to work dosely with citizens to build a
, foundation for tomorrow through efficient water use today.
I

11
