FROM : hZYW

.

PHONE NO. 9631545

.

Jul. 20 1993 11:23PM P06

We realized by implementing the pilot project in Carbondale
. that there are additional unexpected benefits that come along
wi,th the process. For example, when installing the
showerhead we notice the hot water temperature is over 150
degrees and we can realize significant savings by reducing
the setting between 120 and 130 degrees. We can also
recommend insulation on their hot water heater tanks and
pipes. Project participants usually have other questions
about how to save energy and reduce their utility bills.
This leads to public education regarding the conservation of
natural resources and the importance of using them more
efficiently in the future.

SHARING RESULTS OF PROJECT

To begin, the RFEC and Roaring Fork Forum members will use
the local radio stations and newspapers to help distribute
the ongoing progtess.of the project and the monitored water
and energy savings.

With over 20,000 citizens living at the head waters of the
Roaring Fork and Crystal Rivers. residents will become even
more aware of the importance of water conservation. Public
Service Announcements via the media will convey to locals
the results of this project.

The Roaring Fork Forum members will share the results with
other rural, mountainous resort communities, Project results
will be conv~yed to local Council of Governments and other
communities may pattern future water saving efforts after
this project.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

There will be a wide variety of groups involved in the
project. pitkin County will serve as the lead governmental
entity in the grant. The Roaring Fork Forum regularly
scheduled meetings will have status reports of the effort and
will help promote the project. Other groups that. will lend
assistance during 1993 include the Town of Carbondale
Environmental Board that has endorsed this grant application
and will help with implementation. Further, the City of
Aspen/Pitkin County Energy Committee has also endorsed the
project and will help. The Roaring Fork Energy Center has
been a non-profit for over 18 years working in the valley on
programs to conserve natural resources. The RFEC will be
involved from the start to finish of this project. We will
enlist the support from local volunt.eers like. local Rotary
Clubs and interested students from the public high schools
and Colorado Mountain College. As the project develops, we
will request additional help from other local groups and
individuals. .
