(

Town of Castle Rock
Water Conservation Plan

. Vision 2000 - Castle Rock Vision 2000 is a citizen participation process
designed to create the best possible future for Castle Rock as it grows and
matures. All Town citizens were invited to participate and nearly 100
provided input. The vision statements provide guidance to Town government,
civic groups and individual citizens with the focus on six general areas
affecting the community. These areas are community identity, growth
management, transportation, trails, open space and parks, culture, and
community services. Part of the implementation of these guidance measures
is to ensure proper water management, including conservation. Economical
use of water resources is a method of protecting the type of lifestyle the
Castle Rock residents desire. The second phase of the visioning process
identifies key entities whose involvement will make the vision statements
become the future of Castle Rock, proposing ways to make the vision become
a reality.

. Water Newsletter - Through the "Teach By Example" Grant Program, the
Utility Department began sending water newsletters to all Town customers.
This has been continued as a format to update customers on the various
aspects of providing water and wastewater services. Articles focus on water
related issues, including water restrictions, updates on consumption analysis
from the "Teach By Example" program, cross-connection control, water
quality, information about where Castle Rock's water comes from, water
meter information, water efficient landscaping as well as interior water
conservation retrofit and practices.

. Water Conservation kit give away - In 1991, the Town conducted a town-wide
give away of free water conservation kits to each customer. These kilS
included faucet aerators, toilet dye tablets, and toilet tank displacement bags.
These kits are made available to any customer until supplies are exhausted.

. Presentations in schools and organizations - The Utilities Director, chief water
operator, and environmental resource technician have all done presentations
for local schools, the Chamber of Commerce, service clubs including the
Optimist Club, local water authorities and builders associations pertaining to
Castle Rock's water, including its conservation.

. Member of American Water Works Association, Xeriscape Colorado, Metro
Water Conservation Inc., Colorado Water Alliance, Colorado Utility Council,
Colorado Rural Water Association, Denver Regional Council Of
Governments, the Colorado Municipal League, Chatfield and Cherry Creek

12
