)

Town of Castle Rock
Water Conservation Plan

Section 3
Existing Water Conservation Measures

The following is a list of water conservation measures the Town currently addresses, along
with a brief description of each.

EXISTING WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES

1. Water-efficient fixtures

. Plumbing Codes: The Town subscribes to the Uniform Construction Codes,
including the 1991 edition of the Uniform Plumbing Code which requires
installation of 1.6 gallon per flush water closets, 2.75 gpm showerheads, and
2.75 flow faucets.

. "Teach By Example" program: Through a State grant, the Town retrofitted
interior devices including toilets, showerheads, faucet aerators, and washing
machines at three residences. Consumption analysis was tracked to develop
rebate figures in the Incentive Credit Plan.

2. Low water-use landscapes and efficient irrigation

. "Teach By Example" program: The exterior water conservation retrofit
portio.!! of the stale funded grant program allowed exterior retrofit of front
yards at two homes, and one entire landscape at the third home.
Consumption analysis was tracked and will continue to be tracked and used
for educational promotion.

. Water Restrictions: Ordinance 13.15 Water Conservation outlines mandatory
every third day watering restrictions during May - September, and prohibits
wasting of water. Surcharges from $25 - $200, as well as discontinuance of
service are part of the enforcement process.

. Public Irrigated Area Ordinance: Ordinance 13.20 Irrigated Public Area
Water Conservation establishes standards for the design, installation and
maintenance of irrigated landscaping in public areas. The purpose of the
standards is to promote the conservation and efficient use of the Town's water
resources. Due to the implementation of this ordinance, in 1990 irrigation
consumption on Town parks was reduced by thirty-nine percent over base

8
