.

Project Implementation

Outreach/Publicity (Attachment A)

All the following materials are included as Attachment A:

Press Releases, Newspaper Articles, Ads: An initial press release was done to local
newspapers and radio stations. The target audience was all residents of the Roaring Fork
Valley. Newspapers ads were placed in local publications advertising wholesale prices
on Kohler toilets, Spa 2001 shower heads and Niagra faucet aerators. All of the publicity
stated that prices for these water saving devices were well below retail and would result
in considerable savings. Publicity stressed that this was a joint project in cooperation
with Pitkin County and the State Office of Water Conservation. The Aspen Times did a
newspaper article in January, 1995 describing the program

.

RFEC sent out memos to all governments in the Roaring Fork Forum regarding other
energy saving opportunities with phone numbers for the Colorado Office of Energy
Conservation and the Energy Auditor for Holy Cross Electric Association. Presentations
were made to local governments, civic groups, Rotary Clubs, local business owners,
schools, non-profit organizations, and environmental organizations and groups, including
the Colorado Water Quality Association's 1994 meeting.

Letters were sent out to the Aspen Chamber Resort Association; hotel, lodge and
condominium owners; and local governments informing them of the availability of water
efficient plumbing fixtures available through the Roaring Fork Valley Water Efficiency
Program. A "Roaring Fork Valley Water Efficiency Program" flyer was prepared and
widely distributed, announcing the availability of water saving toilets, showerheads and
faucet aerators at wholesale prices for retrofit applications. A brochure/mailer was also
prepared which again announced the program, but gave more in-depth information than
the flyer, including specifications on the toilets, showerheads and aerators. Information
and promotional literature from the vendors was made available to project participants
regarding gallons/dollars saved by using Kohler toilet and Spa 2001 showerheads.

The RFEC, in conjunction with Holy Cross Electric, offered free insulation blankets for
hot water heaters if people participated in the water efficiency program by purchasing a
toilet and/or showerhead. RFEC and Holy Cross produced and distributed a brochure for
this program.

RFEC participated in and publicized the program at Earth Day at Aspen City Hall and the
Freedom Festival in Glenwood Springs in 1995.

.

3
