"

;

j

(ij

.

Water savings, could double the amount of ground with
same amount of water and time,

Time saver - biggest benefit,

HOW WOULD YOU RATE THE ADAPTABILITY OF SURGE TO YOUR
IRRIGATION SYSTEM?

Two days to water, Before it would take 4-6 days to
service the same area.

WHAT DID YOU SEE DIFFERENT BETWEEN SURGE AND REGULAR SYSTEM?

Able to more uniformly irrigate the field while
reducing labor and water costs,

HOW DID THE VALVES BENEFIT YOU?

Time saver, During the first irrigation, I was greatly
surprised that with the use of the surge valve I was
able to water the entire field in 24 hours, In the
past, this 24 acre field took two complete runs or 96
hours of irrigation to cover the same area,

I found the valve very beneficial in gated pipe use, I
plan to purchase another valve for future use in
another location,

Need cheap irrigation.

SUMMARY

The benefits of surge irrigation will accrue to all water
users who depend on the Arkansas River, The projected
effects include the reduction of unnecessary (non-crop)
consumptive use, and a reduction in the salinity increase
coming from geologic formations below the soil profile,
These impacts are projected to maintain more water in the
Arkansas River while reducing one source of salinity,
Though this project was not of a size to have significant
effects by itself on the river system, conceptually and
demonstratively it has,

Additional benefits will accrue on a field by field basis as
irrigators are able to more precisely control the timing and
application of the water. As reported by cooperating
farmers, the realization of labor savings and irrigation
water savings without further cost will help in the adoption
of the new technology and improved irrigation technology
over time,
