<br />r.1' <br />r <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />FARMER FEEDBACK <br /> <br />Following is a cross section of experiences and feedback <br />from participating producers in the Bent Water Conservation <br />Initiative project, <br /> <br />MAIN BENEFIT TO YOUR FARMING OPERATION: <br /> <br />Allowed water to cover most of the field with a single <br />setting of the pipeline, thereby, eliminating moving <br />the pipeline and making an additional pass with the <br />irrigation system, <br /> <br />Time savings was the biggest as I operate by myself, <br /> <br />Labor - found that Rocky Ford Clay Soils did very well <br />with water savings, On Numa Clay I did not see any <br />water savings, <br /> <br />Labor savings, <br /> <br />Only had to check in morning and evening to check on <br />trash (in the water) , <br /> <br />Saves water, covers more acres, 25-35% more acres <br />covered with surge as opposed to conventional <br />irrigation, <br /> <br />Get over twice as much ground with use of surge, <br /> <br />PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND HOW YOU OVERCAME THEM: <br /> <br />Stick got caught in the surge door preventing it from <br />closing all the way, <br /> <br />Buildup of silt, <br /> <br />Raccoons; field needs leveling, trash a problem, <br /> <br />Screen-gage would be plugged up with trash, using a <br />screen to prevent the trash from plugging up-motor type <br />screen built by a guy in Rocky Ford, <br /> <br />Trash--better management, <br /> <br />WHAT WAS THEIR EXPECTATION OF THE BENT INITIATIVE PROJECT ON <br />SURGE VALVES? <br /> <br />Reduced water usage, Ability to cover entire field <br />without moving gated pipe, More uniform distribution <br />of water throughout the field. Reduced labor, <br />
