August 1992

I "SILT CAN SAVE" PROJECT BEGINNING IN AUGUST '.~
6 In the Spring of 1992, the Town of Silt decided to get serious about water conservation.
1 The town applied for and received $15,000 in State water conservation project funds,
made available by the Colorado Water Conservation Board. It is hoped the water
j conservation project, entitled "SILT CAN SAVE", can serve as model for other small
":""1 i! communities who will be attempting water conservation methods. The "SILT, CAN SAVE'
project will begin this month and involves every residence in Silt. The project involves
educating water users about the importance and wisdom of conserving water now while we
I still have a choice, instead of later when we may not.
6 Every residence in the town will receive water saving devices and conservation
educational materials at no charge (thanks to the grant!), The reading materials are fast
and easy to remember water conservation tips, facts, and ideas. The water saving devices
consist of one water saving shower-head, two sink aerators, and a "POP-FLUSH" toilet
.". converter. All are easy to install and can save hundreds of gallons per day per household.
The best part is the project costs you the consumer absolutely nothing, but will save the.
, community a great deal.
The desired result of this project is an overall 20% reduction in water consumption and
production for the Town of Silt. If the town is able to reduce consumption and production of
i treated water by up to 20%, we can all do our part to extend the life of the towns water-
i plant for many more years, a savings to all the residents of several millions of dollars.
t City Hall will begin offering the free packets of equipment and literature on August 10th.
You can come in and pick up the packets any weekday, Remember, only one per
household. If you are a renter, please let City Hall know who you are renting from so we
: can record that the house has received the equipment.
, 1 There will be an article on the project in the local newspapers before the 10th, so look
I for details there as well.
