Low Water Use Fixtures
The City requires all new construction to install low water use fIxtures.
Additionally, all replacement plumbing fIXtures must meet these same
standards. The City will publicize the low water use fIxtures and offer
additonal water conserving tips through a publicity campaign to encourage
retro fit.
2. Efficient Landscape Irrigation
The City will develop within the next three (3) years a xeriscape demonstration
area on City property. The City will record the water use, savings and costs
associated with the xeriscape area. These results will be made available to the
public.
During 1996, the City will implement methods for conserving potable water on
high volume irrigation systems. Methods will include prohibiting landscape
irrigation between the hours of 11:00am - 3:00 pm., using mulch to reduce water
needs and making timer adjustments as dictated by the weather. Run times will
be reduced as much as possible. Water usage will be recorded and compared
to previous years.
3. Water EffIcient IndustriallComrnercial Processes
All commercial accounts will be reviewed to determine what water efficiency
measures need to be addressed. Some prime areas that will be looked at will
be car washes, Coca Cola Bottling Company, motels and hotels.
4. Water Re-use systems
The City will continue to pursue the use of wastewater plant effluent for
irrigation purposes at several locations within the City. The City will continue
to promote non-potable water use when practicable to relieve some of the peak
demand burden at the water plant.
5. Distribution System Leak Repair
The City is scheduled to conduct another leak survey of approximately one-
_~__ qlllll"ter of its distl"ibutioll system in-l996. $4,599 has been budgeted fm this
survey. $4,500 will be requested on a yearly basis to continue surveying one
quarter of the system on an annual basis.
The City will continue with its waterline replacement program as budgetary
considerations allow.

7
