-.

3.

The State Office Building is a five story facility, plus a basement, with restrooms located on
each floor. These are equipped with Sloan Royal flush valves, which use 4.5 gallons per
flush. The following assumptions were used to estimated domestic water use.

State Capitol Building
140 people x 3 flushes/day x 6.0 gal/flush x 260 dalyr = 655,000 gal.
fit employee 140 people x 1 minute/day x 3.5 gpm x 260 dalyr = 127,000 gal.
100 people x 3 flushes/day x 6.0 gal/flush x 120 dalyr - 216,000 gal.
Sen and Rep 100 people x 1 min/day x 3.5 gal/min x 120 dalyr = 42,000 gal.
200 people x 2 flushes/day x 5.0 gal/flush x 120 dalyr - 240,000 gal.
lobbyist 200 people x.5 min/day x 3.5 gpm x 120 dalyr - 42,000 gal.
400 people x 1 flush/day x 4.5 gal/flush x 260 dalyr = 468,000 gal.
visitors 400 people x .25 min x 3.5 gpm x 260 dalyr = 91,000 gal.

State Office Building
240 people x 3 flushes/day x 4.5 gal/flush x 260 dalyr
fit employee 240 people x 1 minute/day x 3.5 gpm x 260 dalyr

=

842,000 gal.
187,000 gal.

visitors

200 people x 1 flush/day x 4.5 gal/flush x 2GC daly.
200 people x .25 min x 3.5 gal/min x 260 dalyr

=

=

234,000 gal.
46,000 gal.

TOTAL

=

3,190,000gal.

Based on these assumptions, domestic water usage for these facilities would be
approximately 3,190,000gallons per year.

Kitchen Use - There is a cafeteria located in the Capitol Building that serves breakfasts and
lunches, five days per week. The number of meals served each day ranges from
approximately 30/day during the slack period to l20/day when the legislature is in session.
Using an average of 80 meals per day, estimated kitchen water use is about 62,000 gallons
per year. Other miscellaneous kitchen uses bring this total to about 100,000 gallons per
year.

Facility Cooling - Water is used to provide cooling for the State Capitol Building. A 110
ton cooling unit is located at the facility. It is assumed to operate for 180 days per year, 12
hours a day. Based on a 2.5 gpm water usage per 100 ton capacity, water use for cooling
is estimated to be about 325,000 gallons per year. Cooling for the State Office Building is
provided by cooling towers not supplied through this water meter.
