Cumnt as of: April 21, 1997

Section 2 - Inventory.

2,1 Water Supply Sources/Storage
The primary potable drinking water sources for the City are six deep (> 1,000 ft) artesian wells
drawing from the San Luis Valley confined aquifer. There is also a shallow irrigation well which
serves part of the irrigation needs of the golf course and a small capacity well for the golf course
club house. Well number 1 at 701 Ross Ave is currently out of service due to a high arsenic level.
It is anticipated that this well shall remain off-line until some sort oftreatment process is designed
or implemented and shall only be used for emergency fire flows if necessary.

The City serves approximately 10,500 people through 2,400 taps. There are no significant
industrial users on the system. More than 80% of the peak sununer use is for lawn, park, and
recreational facility irrigation. The winter domestic demands run about 18% of sununer
requirements.

The system is served by two elevated tanks, one of 150,000 gallons, the other 500,000 gallons.
We also have a surface storage facility of320,000 which is designed primarily to provide an out-
gassing facility for one of the wells, but also serves a secondary function of additional storage.
The reservoir is close to the end of its service life. ,>

2.2 Water/Wastewater Treatment Capacity.
The City does not currently treat its water other than fluoridation at the Weber Well. The system
currently operates under a disinfection waiver from the Colorado Department of Health and
Environment. This waiver permits operation of the system without disinfection of our high
quality sources. It does require a high degree of preventive maintenance of the distribution and
storage system.

The Alamosa Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant was constructed in 1994/1995 and has been
in service since October of 1995" This facility serves the City of Alamosa and surrounding
conununities. Current average flows to the plant are about 1.7 MGD with design average flows
of2.57 MGD and design peak hydraulic flow of 4.75 MGD. This plant was designed with very
" " " " - conserVative" assumptions and includes-an 1(}7 gpcd inflow allowance, The: City is taking vel)'
aggressive measures to reduce this inflow amount.

3,
