<br />. <br /> <br />Participants <br />Project personnel include the following persons: Telluride Institute Trustee and <br />President Pamela Lifton-Zoline, Telluride Institute River Basin Project <br />Coordinators Linda Luther and Leigh Sullivan, Journalist Tony Daranyi, <br />Environmental Intern Chris Hazen, Researcher Eric Trommer and Citizen's <br />Advisor Dr, Marshall Whiting. Technical advisors include but are not limited to <br />the following: Attorney John Musick, Hydrologist Dr, Lee Brown, Wetlands <br />Specialist David Cooper, Plant Ecologist David Groenveld and Scott Chaplin of the <br />Rocky Mountain Institute" <br /> <br />Planning and implementation of this project is expected to include the following <br />entities: Town of Telluride, Telluride Environmental Commission, Division of <br />Wildlife, Bureau of Land Management, The Nature Conservancy, San Miguel <br />County, Telluride Mountain Village Metro District, United States Forest Service, <br />Soils Conservation Office, San Miguel Valley Corporation and the Rocky Mountain <br />Institute, <br /> <br />Project Background <br />The idea for the The Citizen's Water Guide to the Upper San Miguel River }biotin <br />grew out of a scoping session for another project called The San Miguel River <br />Basin: A Whole Basin M~)nAgementStudy which has as its foundation the works <br />of University of Colorado Law Professor Charles Wilkinson"..'Project focus <br />narrowed as participants watched a pipeline being laid ostensibly to carry water <br />from the San Miguel River to a ski areal real estate development above the river <br />and atop a neighboring mesa" <br /> <br />Because water is a very sensitive subject, as well as a vitally important issue, the <br />guide will be an objective and non-partisan piece which speaks to many issues but <br />promotes only conservation and efficiency" <br /> <br />Research Sources <br />Sources to date include but are not limited to the following: Colorado Department <br />of Water Resources: District 4 Office of Water Engineer, United States Geological <br />Survey, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Land Management, Division of Wildlife, <br />The Nature Conservancy, Colorado Water Conservation Board, Rocky Mountain <br />Institute, Idarado Mining Company, District 4 Water Court, Town of Telluride, <br />individual water owners and private developers" <br /> <br />-4- <br />
