WATER CONSERVATION PLAN FOR
COLORADO STATE VETERANS NURSING HOME
FLORENCE, COLORADO

Introduction:

The Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home is a 120

bed skilled facility that provides 24 hour nursing

and support care to the physically and/or mentally

infirm residents. This basic care includes, but is

not limited to the following: housekeeping services,

laundry, meal preparation and therapeutic diets,

administering prescribed mediactions and treatments,

assistance with hygiene activities and is approx-

imately 39,000 square feet and has 63 resident

rooms, ten staff offices and five common areas.

The highest water usage is from three main depart-

ments, dietary, maintenance, and nursing. The

water to the facility is supplied by the City of

Florence. Our building was constructed in 1975.

Objectives:

The goal of the water conservation plan is to

reduce water usage resulting from inefficient

equipment and practices.

Obstacles:

Much of the water use equipment in our facility was

installed before water conservation was an issue or

a 'concern.

Certain budgetary restraints preclude

us from purchasing and replacing this

with more water efficient models.

Methods:

To develop a facility wide conservation plan, we

will involve all staff in identifying problems,

establishing goals and implementing corrective ac-

tions. The department heads for nursing, dietary

and maintenance are the core group and will be

responsible to disseminate information and elicit

suggestions from their staff. Since our water
