, ,

~,

What causes "discolored" water?

In most cases, discolored water is caused by dirt
which inadvertently entered the pipeline during line
repairs. In some cases, discolored water may be the
result of an unknown cross connection.

What causes "milky" water?

"Milky" water is caused by air which can be
trapped in your plumbing system or in the water
mains. Usually this occurs when there is a water main
break and the water has been shut off for repairs.

What causes tastes and odors
in the water?

Most tastes and odors are removed at the treatment
plant and are caused by large "algae blooms" in the
source waters, or lake "turnover." Some tastes and
odors may be caused by chlorine, especially in dead-
end mains or very long service lines which have little
use.

What can be done
about these problems?

Usually, problems of discoloration, milky water or
tastes and odors can be cleared up by lelling the water
run for a short time. If this does not work, call the
office. We may be able to help you.

What about water pressure?

IT'S YOUR DISTRICT

The Ute Water Conservancy District is a single pur-
pose entity formed solely for the provision of domestic
water service to rural and urbanizing areas within its
boundaries. Every decision made by the Board of
Directors has been made with that goal in mind.

The District levies a maximum 2 mill tax on prop-
erty within its boundaries which was approved by an
87% majority vote in the 1963 Bond Issue Election.
This reflects approximately $1.50 per month for a
home valued at $60,000. All revenues from this tax go
toward debt retirement of that original bond issue.

The board

Since 1956, Ute's Board of Directors has had one
goal: to provide the quality and quantity of water that
customers need...at the lowest price possible.

One key measure of success: Ute's base water rates
have increased only once and have stayed the same
since 1983.

The District is governed by 14 directors appointed
by the Mesa County District Court to serve four year
terms. The 14 directors meet monthly and act as a pol-
icy-making body.

The Board meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second
Wednesday of each month. All meetings are open to
the public.

The staff

The District currently has .52 employees to oversee
The Ute system is a gravity system.
