4.1.5 Develop Alternative (non-potable) Water Sources. Pursue
reuse of treated wastewater or diversion of these water rights to
public irrigation uses through construction of irrigation wells. These
wells and distribution lines would be independent of existing wells
and distribution systems.

4.1.6 Monte Vista's "In-house" Plan. It is believed that the City of Monte
Vista by setting a good example will be able to influence individuals to
voluntarily reduce water consumption. Focuses of the plan can include:
A. Xeriscape Demonstration. A flower garden will display the plants
which are typical ofthe Xeriscape type.
B.Education. Have books and handouts covering the subjects of
Xeriscape and other water conservation topics.
C. Information releases in the Valley Courier and radio stations
weather reports giving the ET rate and the availability of free
compost and mulching materials.
D. Public Meetings.

4.1.7 Residential Plan. Many of the techniques used by large irrigation
users can also be adopted by residential users in their lawn care. Careful
.selection and use of appliances may also provide water savings.

4.2 Staqe 2 -Implementation.

4.2.1 Priorities. The highest priorities will be placed on those actions
which have the potential for the greatest water savings. Irrigation,.
both domestic and public (parks, golf course, cemetery) creates
the greatest overall demand and the largest peak demands on the
system. Savings here will have the greatest impact on the overall
sysfe/ll. Tlle:6ily IImlwo HlUjur industrial users which are currently
metered. one of the plants is currently shut down. The only major
commercial users so far identified are the car washes, which have
limited potential for reduced use~ We will continue our effort to
identify major users throughout the system. Domestic use reduction
potential is limited, but will not be ignored.
