Section 4 - Future Conservation Actions

4.1 Staqe 1 - Research.

4.1.1 Identify Hiqh Volume Users and Uses.
The highest volume users include:
Monte Vista City Parks
Monte Vista Golf Course - imgation
Monte Vista Public Schools - irrigation and domestic
Motels - domestic and irrigation'
Medical Facilities - domestic
Skippers Car. Wash - business (North Broadway)
Skaffs Car Wash - business (South Broadway)
Skaffs Car Wash - business (Grande Avenue)
Wolf Creek Potato - business
Ski Hi Swimming Pool and Recreation Park
Colorado State Veterans Center

4.1.2 Determine Uses and Users With The Most Potential For Savinqs.
Monte Vista has a three-fold increase in water usage from winter to
summer which is attributed to irrigation. The plan will concentrate
on increasing the effectiveness of irrigation at City Parks. Monte
Vista Golf Course and educational facilities. Secondary
consideration is given to further reducing usage in the domestic
sector. An aggressive program should decrease consumption and
limit future demand increases through conservation efforts.

4.1.3 Identify Most Effective Tools To Reduce Demand
4.1.3.a. Schedulinq. The Integra Engineering study indicates
that peak instantaneous demand can be reducArl hy mme
than 680 gpm through simple changes in the scheduling of
the irrigation in City parks and recreational facilities. Other
actions that may reduce peak instantaneous demand and/or
overall water use include: Delay irrigation if raining; water by
evapotranspiration rate (ET): check your schedule - what
works in July is too much in September; watering after dark
reduces evaporation and decreases peak demand; watering
slightly longer on fewer days gets the water deeper for
sustained moisture.
