<br />3 <br /> <br />Cherokee has four tank storage reservoirs, The total capacity of these <br />tanks is 11,500,000 gallons. <br /> <br />Currently the District provides service to approximately 4,200 physical taps <br />or nearly 15,300 residents, Metered water sales, averaged over the last five <br />years, is 2,680 acre feet. Well production is consistently running 8-15 percent <br />above metered sales per year. <br /> <br />2.2 Wastewater Treatment Capacity <br /> <br />The District operates its own wastewater treatment works which is a 2 <br />MGD facility currently operating at 71.7'10 of capacity, <br /> <br />2.3 Existing Water Conservation Measures <br /> <br />1. Water-efficient fixtures/Plumbing codes: The District requires all new <br />construction to follow the adopted EI Paso County Plumbing standards to meet <br />the 1992 Energy Act requirements. <br /> <br />2. Xeriscape Landscaping: The District is responsible for 11 medians within the <br />District, Cherokee landscaped the fifth median as a totally xeriscape effort, <br />The District is planning another median to be landscaped in 1998. This will also <br />be a xeriscape garden. Our'quarterly newsletter has touted the median work <br />and encouraged low water use plants within the District. <br /> <br />3. Sotl)EO fjV.EO y~ars ag!, the Di~trid ~ontracted a <br />leak detection review by an outside contractor, This is scheduled again in 1999, <br />With the exception of a large mobile home park, the District received excellent <br />marks on leak detection. At the time meetings were held with the park <br />concerning water waste. Some changes were implemented. <br /> <br />4. Water Re-Use Systems: There are no immediate plans to build a wastewater <br />facility to produce a non-potable water supply. <br /> <br />5. Water Rate Structure: In 1997 Cherokee awarded a contract to Black & <br />Veatch to do an analysis of our current water rates with an eye to producing an <br />increasing block rate to encourage water conservation.
