DNR COLORADO
Co1 Colorado Water
`° C000ervaboo8oard
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 718
Denver, CO 80203
Memorandum
To: Greg Johnson, Water Supi ' - SeCti ,Chief / / is

From: Ben YVadeEt Kevin Reidy
+= '
Water Supply Planning
Date: January 9, 2018
Subject: Water Efficiency Grant Fund Recommendation for Denver Water
Recommendation:
The Water SuppLy Planning staff recommends that Greg Johnson, Section Chief,
approve a Water Efficiency Grant to fund a Pure Water Colorado Potable Reuse
Demonstration Project in the amount of $48,000 for Denver Water.
Summary of Grant Application
The City of Denver has experienced a high growth rate and will continue to grow over
the next several years. The Pure Water Colorado Potable Reuse Demonstration Project
would support Denver Water's long-term strategic planning of reclaimed water, which
represents a significant alternative source of supply to traditional surface water
sources and demonstrate that clean, safe drinking water can be produced from
alternative sources.
The Demonstration Project will be geared toward increasing awareness and
acceptance of potable reuse, including the use of onsite tours, informational
materials, and tastings of water produced at the demonstration facility and
engagement with beverage producer(s) to create a product for consumption. Outreach
is targeted towards the general public, regulators and various stakeholders. This
project is aO extension of a currently funded WSRF project that is working to create a
regulatory framework for direct potable reused water.
The total cost of the project is $249,766. Denver Water is committing 81% matching
funds in the form of $47,187 of in-kind services and $154,579 in cash. CWCB staff has
reviewed and evaluated the grant application and has determined that the proposal
meets or exceeds the CWCB guidelines for reviewing grant proposals. Attached is the
internal checklist used to evaluate the application.
Attachment: Evaluation Checklist
