Summary of Grant Application: The City of Thornton is a covered entity in the Metro/South Platte Basin. The City is currently updating its Drought Management Plan. As of this memo, Thornton has experienced abnormally dry conditions but have had a Dl Drought Monitor classification as of February 2018. Thornton plans to incorporate climate change implications into their planning efforts. Thornton has steadily improved its response to recent droughts from 2002, 2006 Et 2012. Among some of their response efforts, the City entered into short term lease agreements with Denver Water, Coors a Burlington Ditch Company to meet demands. Thornton has estimated demand reduction goals for each stage of drought; a Stage 1 reduction goal of 10%, a Stage 2 reduction goal of 30% and a Stage 3 reduction goal of 45%. The total cost of the project is $108,874' Thornton is committing 72% matching funds in the form of $37,414 of in-kind services and $39,260 in cash. CWCB staff has reviewed and evaluated the grant application and has determined that the proposal meets or exceeds the CWCB guidelines for reviewing grant proposals.
