DNR COLORADO <br /> � ~~ � ~~ ^~ -~ � ~~ <br /> CO � Colorado Water <br /> ~, � Conservation Board <br /> Department of Natural Resources <br /> 1313 Sherman Street, Room 718 <br /> Denver, CO 80203 <br /> Memorandum <br /> To: Greg Johnson, Water SupplPi nin riChief <br /> From: Kevin Kevin Reidy a Ben Wade <br /> Water Supply Planning <br /> Date: May 18, 2018 <br /> Subject: Water Efficiency Grant Fund Recommendation for the City of Thornton <br /> Recommendation: <br /> The Water Supply Planning staff recommends that Greg Johnson, Section Chief, <br /> approve a Water Efficiency Grant to develop a Drought Management Plan in the <br /> amount of $30,000 for the City of Thornton. <br /> Summary of Grant Application: <br /> The City of Thornton is a covered entity in the Metro/South Platte Basin. The City is currently <br /> updating its Drought Management Plan. As of this memo, Thornton has experienced <br /> abnormally dry conditions but have had a Dl Drought Monitor classification as of February <br /> 2018. Thornton plans to incorporate climate change implications into their planning efforts. <br /> Thornton has steadily improved its response to recent droughts from 2002, 2006 Et 2012. <br /> Among some of their response efforts, the City entered into short term lease agreements with <br /> Denver Water, Coors a Burlington Ditch Company to meet demands. Thornton has estimated <br /> demand reduction goals for each stage of drought; a Stage 1 reduction goal of 10%, a Stage 2 <br /> reduction goal of 30% and a Stage 3 reduction goal of 45%. <br /> The total cost of the project is $108,874' Thornton is committing 72% matching funds <br /> in the form of $37,414 of in-kind services and $39,260 in cash. CWCB staff has <br /> reviewed and evaluated the grant application and has determined that the proposal <br /> meets or exceeds the CWCB guidelines for reviewing grant proposals.
