American Smelting and Refining Company from at least 1928 through 1950; <br /> Canadian Corporation of America beginning in 1954 and Ranches Exploration and <br /> Development Corporation and Hecla Mining Company in the 1980s. The United <br /> States of America Department of Energy (DOE) acquired the property in 1986 for <br /> the purposes of removing the radioactive solids left from the milling operation <br /> through the Uranium Mill Tailings Remediation Actions (UMTRA) Project and/or the <br /> Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act (UMTRCA). Descriptions of these <br /> projects are included in the Assignment of Easement, Quit Claim Deed and <br /> Restricted Use Plans contained in the Addenda. As of the date of the appraisal, <br /> the properties are vacant, undeveloped sites except for a parking lot on <br /> Relinquishment Area #1 which is used by the public and gravel on Relinquishment <br /> Area #2. <br /> Sales History <br /> The DOE conveyed the land to the Colorado Department of Public Health <br /> and the Environment (CDPHE) in 1990 subject to a Restricted Use Plan that must <br /> be a condition of any conveyance of the property.
