Mr. Travis Smith
April 16, 2013
Page 2
• Relocate Bubbler, $7,570: The bubbler used to measure reservoir water levels and
transmit the data electronically must be relocated. This will be fully scoped during a site
visit next week, but we have a placeholder cost of$7,570.
• Hydraulic Rotary Cutter Test Work, $30,750: We may be able to draw the reservoir
down so the tunnel intake can be inspected in the fall of 2013. This is necessary for
Phase 2 outlet design. While it is accessible we would like to conduct a hydraulic rotary
cutter test on the rock. If the tunnel rock can be efficiently cut with this tool, no blasting
will be required under Phase 2 and costs will be reduced. A favorable test is likely to
produce better Phase 2 bids.
• Contingency on Clay Liner, $40,000: We have included approximately five percent
contingency on this work. Unknown conditions revealed by foundation excavation may
increase material quantities, so a$40,000 contingency beyond the base bid should be
included in the budget.
The total budget for the planned work in the summer and fall of 2013 is $2,492,336. Included
within that number is $435,000 in contingency costs for additional quantities that could be
required beyond the base bid.
Please call with any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
DEERE & AULT CONSULTANTS, INC.
on .
