The crest elevation is 6886 feet. The total capacity of the
reservoir is 84,410 with an active capacity of 57,542. Ridgway
Reservoir will increase usable water supplies for irrigation and
municipal and industrial purposes and provide for incidental flood
control. The project also includes recreational development at the
reservoir and measures to enhance fishing opportunities on the
Uncompahgre River and improve wildlife habitat.
The dam was constructed in accordance with plans and specifications
and is in good condition with the following noted deficiencies.
The work required to correct the deficiencies will be done by the
District with funds provided by Reclamation, or by Reclamation
under a government contract.
1. spillway structure
A. Several small pits or break outs of the concrete have
occurred along the floor of the spillway chute. Denver
Office personnel indicated that these pits do not pose
any problems.
Lion - District - Even though these pits present no hazard
to the safety of the spillway structure, Reclamation will
provide the District with the required materials and they
will make the necessary repairs-in the spring of 1991.
B. There are several rough areas on the spillway floor
that were poured too high and were buffed down to the
required elevation.
Action - The operation of the spillway during the spring
of 1990 apparently caused no damage. Therefore, no
action is required at this time.
C. The operators of the dam and reservoir have requested
a staff gage be installed on the spillway intake
structure to aid in the operation of the dam.
Action - District - Reclamation will provide the
materials and the District will install the staff gage.
2. A. River Outlet Works Control House
There is a need to install small drain valves on the
hydraulic tanks to test for condensation collecting in
the tanks.
Action - District - The District will purchase and
install the drain valves.
