Animas -La Plata Project
Feb 13, 2013 Draft Transfer Inspection Report
E. Heating and Ventilating Systems
1. Control and Gate Room Heating and Ventilating
The control room and gate /valve room fans should normally operate continuously while
either the control room or gate room is occupied. Two unit heaters mounted in the control
room are energized by their associated wall thermostat upon a drop in room temperature to
the heating set point temperature.
The 2012 CR Examination Report included a new recommendation to replace the pressure
switches for the filter units, which were deemed to be the cause of malfunctioning filter
alarms. Reclamation installed a functional filter alarms on the control and gate /valve room
ventilation system.
2. Gate Chamber and Access Tunnel Ventilation
The system is controlled by a forward- automatic - off- reverse (FWD -AUTO- OFF -REV) selector
switch with a timer for the auto mode, and a fan HIGH -LOW speed selector switch, located
on control panel NCP1 in the Control Room; and an override reverse airflow (REV)
momentary- contact pushbutton /switch located in the gate chamber.
Reclamation installed a functional filter alarm on the tunnel and gate chamber ventilation
systems
TRANSFER ISSUE
STIPULATION
Sections of the ventilation
Reclamation will replace /repair all sections of corroded
d
duct are corrode d and
ductwork, and protect these areas from future water exposure
water continues drip in
damage.
these areas
3. Engine Generator (E -G) Building
The generator is cooled by intake air drawn into the building through the bird screens,
intake louver, security bars, and motor - actuated intake damper; and through the block
vents located near floor level around the perimeter of the building. Then the intake air
passes over the engine and is exhausted by the generator engine- driven cooling fan through
the exhaust air duct, automatic backdraft damper, security bars, exhaust louver, and bird
screen.
F. Instrumentation
Ridges Basin Dam is instrumented to allow long term measurements of embankment surface
deformation, internal deflection and compression of the downstream embankment shell, outlet
works chute wall displacement, collected seepage flows, and foundation piezometric pressures.
Instrumentation includes 36 surface measurement points, one inclinometer, 12 structural
measurement points for outlet works, two toe drain weirs, 21 vibrating -wire and fiber optic
piezometers, and 10 porous -tube piezometers. The Association participates in weekly visual
inspections and data acquisition.
Transferred Works Inspection 9 Animas -La Plata Project
