Drive mechanism for canal gates with protective shields removed for clarity. <br />A problem was encountered in accessing the display and keypad — human- machine <br />interface (HMI) — components of the radio /control units without excessive exposure of <br />the sensitive electronic components to the elements. To address this Control Design Inc. <br />agreed to produce a "remote" display and keypad faceplate in lieu of the on -board display <br />and keypad configuration Control Design already produced. This remote display and <br />keypad may be installed in a separate enclosure so that even if it is necessary to access <br />the HMI to make adjustments in a driving rainstorm, the control circuitry will remain <br />protected within a weather -tight environment. <br />Figure 10 shows a customized installation where the sidewall of the main instrument box <br />was cut out for installation of the remote display/keypad. The back side of a smaller <br />enclosure was then trimmed out so the smaller enclosure could be attached to the main <br />enclosure to provide housing for the remote display and keypad. The HMI components <br />are thus within a lockable weather tight enclosure, but can be accessed without opening <br />the main enclosure. <br />12 <br />
