Overshot Gate at the SPDC Spill Structure <br />A three -bay check structure immediately downstream from the spill gates currently <br />features three hand -wheel operated vertical slide gates. SPDC has motorized two of these <br />gates and will install gate position sensors on all three. Once this is completed, a CDI <br />radio /control unit will control automation of the overshot gate to maintain a target <br />upstream water level and calculate gate - measured spill discharge. The same CDI unit <br />will control the motorized gate in the adjacent check to maintain a target flow rate at the <br />SPDC main flume. <br />The gates in the canal are motorized and driven the same way as the gate in figure 7 using <br />a 12 volt motor and #50 chain driving a sprocket attached to the wheel of the gate. Figure <br />9 is a picture of the drive system with all protective shields removed for the picture. <br />11 <br />
