SUBJECT: Water Efficiency Grant Fund Recommendation for the City of Ouray
Recommendation:
The OWCDP staff recommends that Tom Browning,Assistant Director, approve a Water
Efficiency Grant for a Water Efficiency Plan in the amount of$35,000, for the City of Ouray.
Summary of Grant Application
The Office of Water Conservation&Drought Planning (OWCDP) received a Water Efficiency
Grant Fund application from the City of Ouray. The City of Ouray is requesting $35,000 to
develop a water efficiency plan that will comply with §37-60-126 C.R.S. The total project cost is
$46,540.
The City of Ouray is a non-covered entity located in the Gunnison River Basin and anticipates
having adequate water supplies through 2050. Through implementation of a Water Efficiency
Plan, the City would like to reduce long term future water demands especially during periods of
drought. The City estimates that they can achieve an annual water savings of 61.5 acre feet per
year through 2022 by implementing leak detection and repair programs, landscape irrigation
programs, public education and plumbing fixture ordinances &programs.
The City of Ouray has pledged 25%matching funds through$8,540 of in-kind services and
$3,000 cash. OWCDP staff has reviewed and evaluated the grant application and has determined
that the proposal meets or exceeds the CWCB guidelines for reviewing grant proposals. Attached
is the internal checklist used to evaluate the application.
