QUERYING & CHARTING SOFTWARE AND ITS OPERATION
The Querying and Charting Software is executed to present pre- computed river flows and
subreach gains in both a graphical and tabular format. The pre- computed river flows and
subreach gains are the sole product of the PFM described above. Following are instructions
regarding the computer installation of the Querying and Charting Software (as it applies to the
Lower South Platte River) and steps to assist user's during its operation. The Querying and
Charting Software is written in Microsoft's Visual BASIC (for Applications) and operates within
the Microsoft Excel environment (version 5.0). A hard copy of the Visual Basic module which
controls the Querying and Charting Software is located in Appendix V. Future versions of the
Querying and Charting software will allow its use with output from PFM for other river
segments (i.e. other then the Lower South Platte River).
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The Querying and Charting Software for the Lower South Platte River, along with the necessary
supporting files, are all contained on the accompanying 3.5" - 1.44 megabyte diskette. In total,
seven files associated with the Querying and Charting Software are contained on the disk. The
individual file names and corresponding file descriptions are as follows:
chr prog.zip - A Microsoft Excel Workbook containing the Visual BASIC code module, dialog
boxes, charts, and worksheets used to query and display (in graphical and tabular format) desired
information. This file exists in a compressed format (.zip) on the diskette. Upon execution of
setup.bat, cMprog.zip is uncompressed and resides in the newly created directory c :\ncwcd as
chrtprog.xls. A copy of the Microsoft Visual BASIC module of this Excel Workbook is included
in Appendix V.
flowout.zip - A database file containing all of the daily calculated point flows at locations above and
below each defined node (as described above) in the Lower South Platte River. This file exists in
a compressed format (.zip) on the diskette. Upon execution of setup.bat, flowout.zip is
uncompressed and resides in the newly created directory c.\ncwcd as flowout.dbf. flowout.dbf is
accessed from Excel by executing special ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) drivers and SQL
(Structured Query Language) commands.
gainout.zip - A database file containing all of the daily calculated subreach gains (as described
above) in the Lower South Platte River. This file exists in a compressed format (.zip) on the
diskette. Upon execution of setup.bat, goinout.zip is uncompressed and resides in the newly created
directory c.\ncwcd as gainout.dbf. gaincut.dbf is accessed from Excel by executing special ODBC
drivers and SQL commands.
histdiv.zip - A database file containing total daily diversion amounts from State's River Diversion
Records for ditches /canals (described in section entitled 'Input Data Tables for the Lower South
30 ptflguid.wpd
