5. Irrigation induced erosion is occurring throughout the watershed reducing the <br />production potential of the soil resource. <br />Alternative Plans Considered: <br />1. Future without - no action <br />2. Management practices <br />3. Management practices plus enduring irrigation systems improvements. <br />Other Alternatives Considered, That Did Not Adequately Address Problems, <br />Included: <br />a. canal lining <br />b. change from surface systems to center pivots <br />c. purchase of irrigation rights from landowners <br />Project Purposes: <br />The primary purposes are: 1. Agricultural water management — improve water <br />application effectiveness and reduce negative water quality impacts to surface and <br />groundwater's including, Horse Creek, the Arkansas River and Cheraw Lake. These <br />impacts being from excessive loading of selenium, rare earth elements, sediment, and <br />salts. 2. Watershed protection - protect the soil resource base from excessive <br />irrigation induced erosion and sedimentation. <br />Principal Project Measures: . <br />17 <br />
