DIRECTORS JOIN ENTITIES WITHIN THE ARKANSAS RIVER BASIN At a special meeting Sep- tember 10, 2003 the Board of Directors for the Southeastern Colorado Water Conservancy District (SECWCD) unani- mously voted to adopt and pur- sue the goals and principles of the Arkansas River Water Pres- ervation Committee. The Arkansas River Water Preservation Committee is a collaboration of entities within the Arkansas Valley Basin formed to safeguard and pre- serve, for present and future generations, the water available for diversion and use within the Arkansas River Basin. The entities involved are Pueblo and Colorado Springs City Councils, Board of Water Works of Pueblo, Lower Ar- kansas Valley Water Conser- vancy District, Upper Arkansas Water Conservancy District and SECWCD. SECWCD President Alan Hamel signed as one of the drafters of the docu- ment and General Manager James Broderick as an official. The committee was formed early in the year as an approach to gather those that expressed concerns regarding water use within the basin. The idea of the goals and principles are to provide guide- lines to allow those within the basin a template to adhere to for water issues. Written by Margie Miller, Compliance /Administrative Clerk RECLAMATION REFORM ACT REPORTING FOR 2004 This notice is to remind those landholders within the boundaries of the District that the Reclamation Reform Act (RRA) forms will be distributed to individuals by mid January. RRA applies to those landholders /entities that own, lease, or combination of both irrigable land over 240 acres. Reporting is mandatory and those that opt not to report or don't report on time will be denied Fry -Ark Pro- ject and Winter water. Conserving water in our homes and gardens can affect how we distrib- ute and store water in the future. Increases in our population and the current and possible fu- ture droughts have in- creased the demands on our water resources. Because of this increase in demand water con- servation will continue to be part of our lives. A bonus of the Xeris- cape philosophy is the realization that garden- ers can have more for less: more garden color throughout a variety of locations, more satis- faction knowing you are taking an ecological ap- proach to gardening, by using less water and less non - renewable natural resources.
