SECWCD
February 16, 2006
8
RECORD OF PROCEEDING
information can be shared with a wide range of audiences and can be easily updated with new
information.
Mrs. Van Pelt reviewed the Web site, the home page features the 14 weather stations that are
located throughout the valley. By clicking on a local weather station a visitor can access local
weather reports. They provide current, daily, and historical weather data, plus ET summaries if
available.
In addition, weather forecasts are available. The links provide seven -day, monthly, regional, and
seasonal forecasts, and also satellite imagery, hydrologic predictions, and snow survey reports.
The "Who We Are" Page offers links to the Web sites of the sponsors if a visitor desires further
information.
The "Research and Resource" pages were developed to provide information about efficient
agricultural water management practices and technology.
The "Research" page contains reports from studies performed at the Research Center and by others.
A visitor can find information on canal seepage, subsurface & drip irrigation methods, use of soil
amendments to increase the efficiency of irrigation water, and Research Center reports that provide
information on proper selection and best management practices for crop production.
The "Resource" page provides links to the Cooperative Extension, CSU Water Center, and the
Colorado Sustainable Agriculture Web site. In addition, links are provided to sites with information
on lining canals and ditches, limited irrigation management, crop residue and crop management, the
use of irrigation propeller meters, and efficient irrigation scheduling.
The "Contact Us" page provides quick and easy access for requesting additional information.
The Web site will be continually updated as new research and information is made available.
Future projects will include developing a Web page to announce upcoming agriculture, irrigation,
and conservation events, a data base that will house a mailing list to update interested parties about
these events & an additional page will be developed to display the educational power point
presentations from these events. Another project will be to expand the weather information to
include the upper Arkansas valley and El Paso County.
There has been a brochure developed to promote the Web site's use. The Board was provided a
copy of the brochure in their Board binders under the Conservation tab. Brochures will be
distributed throughout the District via ditch and canal companies, the CSU cooperative extension
and local NRCS offices. The District will be announcing the debut of the Web site through a press
release the first of March. The Board's input and suggestions on the contents of the website are
very welcome and appreciated.
