Pine River Project <br />Location: Pine River (tributary to San Juan River above <br />Navajo Dam) <br />Completed: 1941 <br />Features: Vallecito Dam and Reservoir <br />Consultation History: No Section 7 consultation <br />Purposes: Irrigation <br />* 54,000 acres of supplemental service to <br />Indian and non - Indian lands <br />* annual depletion of 58,100 acre -feet <br />Recreation <br />* reservoir -based facilities managed by <br />U.S.F.S. and Pine River Irrigation <br />District <br />Flood Control <br />* reduce snowmelt flooding <br />Power <br />* non - Federal powerplant installed 1989 <br />under FERC license <br />Water Rights: Project water rights are owned by Pine <br />River Irrigation District. Article 13 of the District's <br />repayment contract provides the District "the use and benefit of <br />the project water supply . . . for the purpose of supplying the <br />lands of the District, ". Article 29 provides that "the right is <br />retained by the United States to use the Vallecito Dam and <br />Reservoir for flood control and other purposes not inconsistent <br />with any rights acquired therein by the District . .". <br />-.k� <br />
