On September 21, Mike Willett, president of the Board of the District, and Nathan Coombs,
District Manager, travelled to SLC to meet Don Read at Prime Machine Inc. for the pressure and
operator testing. Prime Machine Inc. set up the leak tests at their facilities and the valves
performed above required limits. The valve body was filled with water and pressurized to 90psi.
The requirement for this test is that the valve leaf leakage could not exceed '/4 gallon per minute;
the leakage was 6 ounces!
,
:
. r ` .
x
 € '." i '.. yp ...
,; ,
t
a„x
The operators and mechanical actuators were also tested for the rate of opening and closing and
stop sets were programmed. The valve leaf travels from full open to full close in 5 minutes and
37 seconds. The closing rates were the same.
Prime Machine Inc. did a great job. Don Read, the Bureau's engineer signed off and approved
the valves saying that they exceeded his expectations and were a bargain for the price.
On October 5, 2010 Prime Machine
arrived on site at Platoro. They
immediately began the process of
removing the first butterfly valve. This
required about three days with three men
working 10 hour days! The workers
removed the discharge nozzle and
suspended it by cables so that the valve
body could be removed. There are forty-
four, 1'/2 inch bolts around the mounting
flange. All had to be removed by hand.

'

.
,-#,
  ,
e f - :
 4
 ,

 ,

J,
,
