evaluated based on land and power availability. The locations selected for the pumping
stations are as described below.
Pumping Station No.1 (PS-1) will deliver water from the PS-1 forebay to Pumping
Station 2 forebay. It will be located near the South Platte River on land just north of
Highway 7 between the Brighton and Brantner ditches in Adams County, Colorado.
It will consist of a forebay, suction header, suction piping, pumps, discharge piping,
discharge header, surge tank and electric transformer.
Pumping Station No. 2(PS-2) will lift water from the PS-2 forebay to Pumping
Station forebay. It will be located about 1,500 feet southwest of the intersection of E-
470 and 96th Avenue in Adams County, Colorado. It will have the same
appurtenances as PS-1, except with a smaller forebay.
Pumping Station No. 3(PS-3) will lift water from the PS-3 forebay to the new
ARWPF. It will be located on 20 acres of land just south of I-70 and east of Powhaton
Road in Arapahoe County, Colorado. A 75-by-678-foot access and utility easement
extends from the property east to Powhaton Road. It will have the same
appurtenances as PS-2.
Conveyance System Components
The project sponsor, Aurora Water, and its team of professionals, began preliminary design
activities for the PWP in 2004. Development of preliminary design packages led to clearer
definition of PWP facilities. With respect to the Conveyance System, five design and bid
packages were originally identified in 2004 for implementation as part of the PWP. Through
value engineering, Package B(Special Crossings and Micro-Tunneling) was eliminated as a
separate bid package, and the special crossings were incorporated into the respective
pipeline segments where required. Thus, the Conveyance System for the Prairie Waters
Project is now comprised of the following four bid packages.
Package E- Pumping Stations No.1, 2, and 3
Package G- Transmission Pipeline Segment No.1
Package H- Transmission Pipeline Segment No. 2
Package I- Transmission Pipeline Segment No. 3
The project sponsor, Aurora Water, seeks funding in the form of a loan from the Colorado
Water Conservation Board Construction Fund Water Project Loan Program for use on these
conveyance elements of the PWP. The following sections of this document describe Bid
Packages E, G, H, and I, the water conveyance elements of the PWP.
Conveyance Pipeline
' The 33-mile, raw-water pipeline will consist of a 60-inch-diameter flexible steel pipe that
will convey raw water from the Pumping Station No.1 forebay to the new Aurora Reservoir
Water Purification Facility (ARWPF/South Campus) in three segments. The pipe will be
, buried for its entire length, and will include trenchless crossings beneath waterways,
wetlands, highways, major arterial streets, railroads and canals as required. The conceptual
layout for the pipeline is divided into three segments as shown in Figure 2 above.
1
