Town of Vail - Town Council - Town Council Highlights - Archive - June 12, 2001 Page 5 of 8 <br />The Council agreed to contribute $5,000 to the Colorado Alliance for a <br />Rapid Transit Solution (CARTS) as it seeks to place a measure on the <br />November ballot to transfer $50 million in excess state revenues to be <br />used to conduct a test and demonstration of a proposed high speed <br />monorail system at the Transportation Technology Test Center in Puebl <br />The test is a prelude to a possible monorail project along the 1 -70 corrid <br />W <br />-- Review Council Critical Strategies <br />During a review of Council's critical strategies list, Town Manager Bob <br />McLaurin said a discussion on proposed changes to the Housing Zone <br />District ordinance had been moved from the June 19 meeting to June 26 <br />/"11 <br />wr <br />-- Information Update <br />Council members were encouraged to attend the Town of Vail annual <br />employee picnic to be held June 15 in Ford Park. Next, Suzanne <br />Silverthorn from the Community Information Office provided an update o <br />promotion of Vail's new safety measures for the July 4th holiday. <br />Silverthorn said the campaign would focus awareness on a townwide <br />curfew, which was approved on first reading at the June 6 meeting. With <br />deadlines for printed materials occurring prior to second reading, <br />Silverthorn said it would be difficult to communicate additional changes t <br />the curfew should the Council make modifications on second reading at <br />June 19 meeting. Next, Councilmembers were briefed on a mountain pi <br />beetle tree removal project above the Glen Lyon subdivision. The projec <br />is being coordinated by the U.S. Forest Service and Vail Resorts. The <br />route for hauling the trees off the mountain will be West Forest Road to <br />Vail Road to 1 -70. The work began on June 12. <br />f „ <br />r <br />-- Council Reports <br />Kevin Foley, who represents the town on the Eagle County Regional <br />Transit (ECO) board, reported on a recent retreat in which discussions <br />included the possibility of using shuttles to transport employees from the <br />homes in Summit and Garfield counties to their jobs in Eagle County. <br />Ludwig Kurz reported on the interview process for the town attorney <br />position, which was vacated when Tom Moorhead resigned to take a <br />position with Eagle County. To date, four local candidates have been <br />interviewed, with two others to be scheduled. Also, Kurz presented a <br />request by Eagle County to forward the name of an individual to represe <br />Vail on Eagle County's Capital Projects Committee.
