difference between what an irrigation company says
they want and (there's possibly a difference) what
they actually need. So we are trying to clarify
and get a picture of the whole South Platte River
and then we will work from there."
MR. GILDERSLEEVE: "I'm sure you are, but the only point I'm
making is that those are studies which you are
carrying on and which you will carry on and the
members of the steering committee have expressed
concern about both of those."
MR. BARRETT: "That's right. That's why I say it may be the
desire of the steering committee that they delay
a decision on Weld County or Narrows until they
have some additional studies based not on costs,
but on hydrology and the service areas which should
be recommended. "
MR. GILDERSLEEVE: "It would seem to me that's what the concensus
of opinion has been."
MR. STAPLETON: "Would Mr. Sloan withdraw his motion then, on
that basis ?"
MR. SLOAN: "I'll withdraw it."
MR. BARKLEY: "I'll withdraw my second."
MR. GILDERSLEEVE: "Mr. Sarchet has a comment."
MR. SARCHET: "Would it be possible that we have an evalua-
tion here of the cost analysis and comparison of
the two sites from that angle? Would it be possible
to have an evaluation of the irrigation potential
of the two sites without going to the nth degree
as to considering transmountain diversions? But
there is a comparison that can be made of the
irrigation potential of the two sites from the
area directly affected, whether there is sufficient
demand for supplemental water below the Narrows
that would make full use of the irrigation poten-
tial. I doubt if there is. I'm not convinced but
what there is a far greater potential to serve
irrigation interests by the Weld County site. I
could be wrong but I still feel that way.
-42-
