the water. I don't think we are accomplishing
our end unless we know what those uses are before
we select a site. It is my impression that the
Weld County site has a far greater potential for
irrigation use.. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm subject to
conversion on that point but there is no informa-
tion in this report as to that and I have to go
by what I know about the river and what exper-
iences we've had and the diversions at the other
ditch systems."
MR. GILDERSLEEVE: "Mr. Sloan has a question."
MR. SLOAN: "I would like to direct a question to the
chair. This committee has received a report from
the Bureau of Reclamation. What action do you
expect us to take today ?"
MR. GILDERSLEEVE: "As I read the letter of transmittal with this
report, the Bureau of Reclamation hoped, at least,
that a site selection might be made as a prelimi-
nary to or as a factor in what their future
studies would be in order to determine the course
and the scope they would take. It appears to me
from the comments of the members of the steering
committee that they are not ready at this time
to make any selection in their own minds of the
best possible site as between the Narrows or the
Weld County.
There are a number of things in my own mind
which I don't believe have been cleared up yet.
I don't believe that the Bureau has definitely
determined what the yield of this reservoir will
be; the hydrology studies are not complete; so
far as I know they have made no determination of
where the water will be used; as to what the needs
are by ditches and areas; they have not made a
study as to the exchange possibilities as between
either the Narrows or the Weld County sites by
themselves or in conjunction with an upstream
reservoir such as Two Forks; and it would seem to
me that those studies should:be carried out, for
a time at least, as if no site selection had been
made (which it hasn't). It may be that the ans-
wers that are obtained in this study as they go
along may help the members of the steering
-31-
