committee to make up their own minds as to which
is the site to be finally slected and it may not
take years to arrive at such a point.
Mr. Sloan has made a proposal. I don't know
whether we are to take that in the form of a
motion. If so, is there a second and how do
the members of the steering committee feel about
it."
MR. BARKLEY: "Do you want a second to that, Mr. Chairman?
Just for the purposes of discussion, I'll second
it."
MR. STAPLETON: "What is the motion again, so I may under-
stand it."
MR. SLOAN: "The motion was that the steering committee
furnish one man to work with the Bureau of Recla-
mation on the site selection and I proposed
Cecil Osborne be that man."
MR. GILDERSLEEVE: "You've heard the motion and the second. Is
there any discussion ?"
MR. STAPLETON: "I think the motion is premature because I'm
not sure that we've got enough information at all
to make a site selection at this time. I think
it's pretty clear that the Narrows site is still
reasonably unpopular and until there can be some
popularity built into it there's no point in dis-
cussing it. I think the engineering details must
go on to some extent before any of us, including
any representative we might happen to discuss,
can clearly make up their minds. I would be in
favor, rather than the motion, that these studies
go on between the Bureau and the staff of the
Water Board with any of the steering committee
members who can give the time and who would be
interested enough to give the time, we'd want
them to, to see what can be done with these engi-
neering studies and the exchange to see whether
or not we're three years away or four years away
or where we are.
I've been interested only in trying to get
something done up in the Platte River Basin.
