RESOLUTION <br />N"HEREAS, the Bureau of Reclamation, or the corps of army engineers, proposes to <br />build a dam across the Platte River approximately eight miles northwest of Fort <br />Morgan, Colorado, to be known as the'Narrows Dam, and <br />-TIEREAS, the proposed dam, if constructed, will destroy approximately 6 1 000 acres <br />of the most productive and highly improved irrigated land in Morgan County, in <br />addition to depriving approximately 1,000 acres of land under the Riverside Ditch <br />from a satisfactory market for farm products, and <br />WHEREAS, approximately sixty farmers under the Weldon Valley'Ditch will be deprived <br />of their homes and farms, and <br />V!JHEREAS, three towns, <<Jeldona, Goodrich and Orchard, will be within the boundaries <br />of the Narrows Dam project and will be forced to evacuate, and <br />VffIEREAS, Morgan County will lose a large x eage of valuable cultivated and irri— <br />gated land, and be deprived of the revenue and taxes derived from the use of this <br />land, and <br />WHEREAS, the oldest residents of Morgan County know of but one year during the last <br />fifty years that any damage has been done to agricultural farm lands outside of the <br />first river bottom, which is not productive, and <br />R[HEREAS, this proposed dam will necessitate moving the Union Pacific Railroad line <br />for a distance of approximately thirty miles and constructing expensive ditches, <br />roads and bridges, and <br />LdHEREAS, the entire project is detrimental to the social and economic interests <br />of this county, <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RE6OLVED that we vigorously oppose the building of the Narrows <br />Dam project and urge car, representatives and benators in Congress to use their <br />best influence in preventing the construction of this dam; and that the Secretary <br />of this Club be instructed to forward to each of our Representatives and Senators, <br />a copy of this Resolution. <br />This resolution was passed unanimously at a regular meeting of the Brush Civic <br />Club, Brush, Colorado,June 6, 1949. <br />RECOIvP..
